Our Story
Give every person who sits down the full attention of someone who actually loves this work.
The Velvet Chair opened in 2018 on South Street in Lincoln. Three styling chairs, a broom, and a lot of optimism. The idea was simple: build a salon where nobody gets rushed, nobody gets ignored, and every cut matters.
That first year was mostly word of mouth. A friend tells a friend. Somebody brings their kid. A guy asks if we do beards—we do now. By 2020 we’d outgrown the chairs, so we added three more and brought on our first barber.
We didn’t open a second location. We didn’t franchise. We got better at this one. We hired people who care about craft—not just technique, but the whole experience. The conversation, the music, the coffee, the feeling of walking out and actually liking what you see in the mirror.
Today we’re six stylists and a barbershop chair, still on South Street, still taking walk-ins. If you’ve never been, come try us. If you have, you already know.
What We Believe
Every appointment starts with “what are you thinking?” not “what are we doing today.” Your vision comes first. Our expertise shapes it.
We book enough time for every client. No double-booking, no “quick, get them out.” If it takes an extra ten minutes to get it right, it takes ten minutes.
Your cut, your color formula, how you like your coffee. We keep notes because relationships matter more than transactions.

Walk-ins are always welcome on a first-come basis. If you want a specific stylist or a guaranteed time, call ahead and we’ll book you in.
For color, treatments, or bridal work, we recommend booking at least a week in advance.
